This hike starts in the mountain village Gorna Belica and takes you to the glacial Lake Vevchanska Lokva and is about 11 km long with 900 m climbing.
The first part of this hike is very well do-able and follows a clear trail, the second half after the lake is a much more difficult ridge-walk without a clear trail. Overall, the hike was harder than we expected.

Note that Google Maps may try to guide you to Gorna Belica through the village Vevchani. However, the last part of this road is unpaved! You should use the road via the village Vishni to get to Gorna Belica. It’s about an hour driving from Ohrid.
We parked the car at the Church of St Petka in Gorna Belica.

The first part of the hike takes you through forest.
There was a small house with a dog in the forest, that we could pass without problems. Our trail maybe deviates here a bit from the official route, which was not very clear at that point.

Soon, we encountered a flock of sheep accompanied by a friendly but hard-of-hearing shepherd with his dogs, who blocked the forest trail. The shepherd told us he daily walks up to the lake with his sheep. Always take care when you hear or see the sheep, because there will always be dogs that will defend the flock and will see you as a threat. Always try to get the attention of the shepherd so he can call off his dogs. In this case that was extra challenging because he seemed to be almost deaf!
Once you are above the trees, the views are really good.

Soon you’ll reach the glacial Lake Lokva (Vevchanska Lokva). We had a relaxed picnic at the lake and I walked around the lake (not included in the GPS track). There are some interesting rock formations around the lake.

Compared to the relatively easy walk up to the lake, the second part is a lot harder. From the lake you’ll have to climb up to the ridge, without a clear trail and with a grade of 35% at some points.

This hike does not include a visit the Crn Kamen (Black Stone, 2557 m) peak, which we had previously climbed during a hike starting in Vevchani. That hike was also supposed to include Lake Lokva, but we did not visit the lake at that time because there were sheep and dogs at the lake.

After that, you follow the ridge. Keep right at the waypoint that I made saying “keep right”.
The ridge walk offers great views.

From there a long and steep descent starts, all without a clear trail but well do-able with the GPS.
The last part is through forest again.

It’s difficult to rate this hike. It was a bit unexpected that the second half was so much harder than the first half, but if you know this in advance you can mentally prepare for it! I would give it a 3.5 rating. If I would have to choose between this hike and the hike from Vevchani that also passes Lake Lokva and visits the Crn Kamen peak, I probably would opt for the second one (which is more demanding with 20 km and 1450 m climbing). The two hikes are hardly overlapping so you can also do them both!

Another hike that I did that starts in Gorna Belica is the one all the way down to the village Radozda at Lake Ohrid.
