Klisura Cactus Valley

Klisura Cactus Valley

The Cactus Valley can be found at the village Klisura, a few kilometers from Demir Kapija.

St Nikola

We parked the car a bit below the Church Of St Nikola in Klisura. The Church of St Nikola was built in the 19th century and frescoe painted in 1879. When we visited in September 2025 the church was being renovated and closed.

Klisura Cactus Valley

If you follow the road uphill you’ll reach the Cactus Valley, which actually is on a hill. It is believed that the cacti originate from seeds left by migratory birds. However, it is also possible they were introduced by humans.

In the spring and summer the cacti may carry yellow blossom, however in September there was not much to see and the cacti looked very dried out after the long hot summer.

There were some ruins as well on the site, mainly piles of stones.

St Talalej

The Church of St Talalej is about 500 m further uphill. It was closed and not really worth the effort to walk there.
