You can say a lot about the people living on the east coast of Lake Prespa, but they certainly had a sense of humor when they named their villages. Podmocani means something like “We peed a little bit in our pants”… Further to the south you can find the village Dupeni, meaning “We are screwed”. More official sources claim that Dupeni is derived from the old Slavic word dupina (a hole), referring to its location in a valley…

The high location of the Church of St Peter and Paul gives some good views of the village beneath. I believe the church was built in 2004

In Podmocani there is a small Ethnological Museum. The private collection of Jone Eftimoski is on display here. Entrance was only one euro when we visited. Some of the items are also for sale.

You can see many traditional Macedonian costumes, jewelry, weapons, coins, bags etc. The traditional dresses that are on display are changed regularly, since there are too many to show at once. Many important Macedonians visited here, including the president.
