The Church of St George is from the 13th-14th century. The frescoes in the first part of the church were repainted in 1939. However, behind the iconostasis there are some much older frescoes, likely the original ones. As a man you may be allowed to go behind the iconostasis and admire these old frescoes.

The Church of St George is located on a small hill overlooking Godivje. The church most likely will be closed, so try to get the key in the village before you visit the church. Your best chance to get the key is to inquire in the Etno Museum in Godivje. They will be able to tell you where the caretaker of the church lives. In our case they even went to get the caretaker for us! Location: N41° 24′ 07.4″ E20° 47′ 21.4″

Ethnological Museum

While we were trying to find the Church of St George, we noticed this small ethnological museum in Godivje. The gates were closed but after we rang the bell at the gate the owner came to open up for us. The small museum is mainly interesting if you like traditional clothing, there are several examples of traditional costumes.

The rest of the museum contains some knick-knacks that the owner collected over the years. The 100 denars (1,60 euros) entrance fee is a bit steep for Macedonian standards, especially if you are visiting with a couple of people together. Location: N41° 24′ 06.9″ E20° 47′ 25.0″.

We were told that there used to be a monastery at the location of the relatively new Church of St Spas. It allegedly was burned by the Turks in Ottoman times. St Spas is located a bit outside Godivje, along the road that connects Godivje with the village Vrbjani. The church of St George in Vrbjani is worth a visit due to its expressive frescoes.
