Meseista is a village close to Ohrid. It is located on the right side of the road from Ohrid to Kicevo. You can see Lake Ohrid at the top of the picture.

The Church dedicated to Saints Peter and Paul (Petar and Pavle) was built in 1899 on the remains of an older church. It is in the center of Meseista, on the graveyard. Some of the graves date back to the medieval period. The feast day of Meseista is July 12, which is St Peter and Paul’s day.

Unfortunately I do not know enough about religion to interpret this strange fresco in the church of St Peter and Paul! The church was fresco-painted in 1902.

The Church of St Ilija (St Elias) is located on a hill above Meseista. The road to the church is not paved but relatively good. However, we did not take the risk of damaging our car and walked to the church. It’s about 20 minutes walking uphill from the flower factory. The current church was built on an older church, probably dating from the late medieval period. On August 2nd (Ilinden Day, or St Elias’s Day) people come to this church to celebrate. Unfortunately, we were here one day too early on August 1st!
