Radozda

Radozda is the last village before the border with Albania on the western side of Lake Ohrid. The village is famous for the cave church of the Archangel Michael overlooking the village, high on the cliffs of Lake Ohrid.

Among the frescoes in the Cave Church of St Michael is one of the Archangel at the Miracle of Chonae. Some of the frescoes date back to the 13th century. Before you go up the stairs to the church, ask for the key at the nice restaurant Dva Biseri (Two Pearls) since the church might be locked. They will also be able to serve you a tasty meal after the steep walk up the stairs!

Church of St Nikola

The Church of St Nikola is located at the cemetery of Radozda.

Via Egnatia

If you follow the road uphill to the south from St Nikola, you will find the remains of what is though to be the ancient Roman road Via Egnatia. The Via Egnatia was built by the Romans in the 2nd century BC and is located about 2 km outside of the center of Radozda. To get there, turn right after the restaurant Dva Biseri below the Cave Church of Archangel Michael and go uphill at the first shop. You will pass the Church of St Nikola at the cemetery and soon will see a cobbled road. This should be the remains of the Via Egnatia. It is not known where the road exactly was heading from here. Some say parts of it are under water in Lake Ohrid between Struga and Ohrid. This hike from Gorna Belica to Radozda follows a small part of part of the Via Egnatia. The Via Egnatia Foundation has a book that describes a hiking trail that follows the whole Via Egnatia, including GPS files.
