Kamenjane Waterfalls in Shar Mountain National Park (5.5 km)

Kamenjane Waterfall #7

Rating: 5 out of 5.

This is a short but very enjoyable and scenic hike of 5.5 km with 375 m height difference that takes you along the 8 waterfalls of the village Kamenjane.

Kamenjane is a village near Tetovo at the Sharr Mountains, and it is approximately 50 km or a 50 min drive from Skopje (toll road).

This is an amazing place that seems to come straight from a fairy tale.

Kamenjane Waterfall #3

I visited the Kamenjane waterfalls alone in 2022 because my girlfriend had other things to do that day. In 2026 we revisited together because she had never seen these hidden gems before.

The main difference was that in 2022 I visited on a weekday and I had the waterfalls completely for myself. In 2026 we visited in the weekend and we had to share the waterfalls with many other people. Take-home message: don’t visit in the weekend if you don’t like crowds on the trail!

Viewpoint

The site with the waterfalls has bridges and stairs that make it relatively easy to reach all the waterfalls. I can imagine that it can get slippery after a rainy period. Several bridges and stairs were new compared to 2022, indicating that this site is well maintained.

We parked on the street leading to the waterfalls. There’s a shop that sells good ice-cream there as well.

You could park 600 m further next to the watermill if you want, but the road is unpaved and it’s not worth the hassle if you ask me…

The first thing to see on the trail is an old watermill, make sure you have a peek inside. The mill was closed in 2022, but it was open in 2026 (maybe because it was in the weekend??). The cool thing is that the mill is still in use! They were actively grinding grain when we were there. At the mill you can buy different kinds of flour that has been produced with this traditional watermill! This was a very nice surprise and we went home with 2 kg of flour!

After the last waterfall (about 2.5 km from the start) you can decide to take the same trail back like we did,  or continue the circular hike described that I did in 2022. Since the circular hike is mainly on asphalt, I think the current version would have my preference.

Kamenjane Waterfalls

This hike gets 5 out of 5 stars because the waterfalls were very, very enjoyable.
