Rashtak cave

Rashtak Cave

Rating: 3 out of 5.

This is a hike of 11 km with 660 m ascent near the village Rashtak on the Skopska Crna Gora Mountain (Skopje’s Black Mountain). The hike takes you to a small cave near Rashtak, as well as the ruins of a watermill.

We parked near the bus stop in Rashtak, there is plenty of parking space.

Rashtak hike

After passing a place for picnic with some gazebos and a playground, we followed a stream uphill.

The Rashtak cave was full with big spiders. The cave is not very large, but has a rather deep hole in the back. Take a good flashlight or headlight if you plan to go into the cave.

Watermill

A bit further there was a make-shift shelter for picnic. Near the shelter there were the ruins of an old watermill, used in the past to grind grains.

Near the end of the hike there is a hill that shows some characteristics of the ruins of an old fortress or something similar. There may have been some digging by treasure hunters. I didn’t find specific information about this site.

Rashtak hike

This was our first hike in Macedonia during our visit in 2026. It’s mainly interesting because of the relatively easy statistics and the cave. The hike gets 3 stars out of 5.
